Man City v Wolves

It's glorious day and a carnival atmosphere at the COMS. The stadium is looking majestic after a new lick of paint over the summer. There's not a spare seat to be had. Mick McCarthy brings his newly promoted Wolves as champs and many are predicting a tight encounter in this home programme opener. City should be upbeat and confident after their mid-week victory against the kings of Europe at the Nou Camp.

City fans show owner Sheikh Mansour their gratitude by displaying a huge banner thanking him personally for the transformation of the club.

The game is underway and City dominate with cool assurance and silky passing. It's not long before City open the scoring. Adebayor lashes in after an exquisite el Tev lay-off. Let the goals rain down!

Wolves will surely have to now show more attacking endeavour. City will be licking their lips at the prospect by exposing the extra space beyond midfield. We're hungry for the wolf!

City's passing is sublime, mesmerising Mick's men! Adebayor looks class as the opposition's defenders struggle to cope with his skill, pace and strength. He almost doubles his tally only for the Wolves' keeper to deny the Togolese hit man. Robinho and Tevez go close and City may live regret not cashing in on their numerous first half opportunities.

Half Time : City 1 - Wolves 0.

The 2nd half is unfortunately a different story. City are failing to maintain their verve and lose their mojo somewhat. Wolves are now beginning to compete. City are slowly surrendering the midfield battle and get a shock with 20 minutes remaining as Andy Keogh volleys against Shay's bar.

Will this be the City of old who fold? Or the City of new who come through? Time to see if cool heads and assured defending prevail when the going gets tough.

Bellamy and NDJ replace Tevez and Robinho respectively and City close out the game in nervy fashion, but do so without conceding. Hoorar!

Maybe the mid-week game in hot humid conditions took its toll in the 2nd half. Maybe we need more time to gel. Maybe credit should be given to the visitors who did give it a go.

Two games, three goals, none conceded, six points, happy days!
